Psilocybin facilitation for Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs is the clearest example in the state of how much local government still decides. The Natural Medicine Health Act passed statewide in 2022 and licensing began in 2025, but a city controls where a licensed business may physically sit, and the Springs used that control firmly.
What the council did
On 26 November 2024 the city council voted 6 to 3 for zoning that prohibits a healing center within one mile of any school, daycare, or drug and alcohol treatment center, with a 1,000 foot buffer applied to cultivation, manufacturing, and testing. In a city with the school density of Colorado Springs, a one mile buffer removes almost the entire map. Council members who voted against it, and local reporting at the time, called the result a functional ban; amendments to bring the distance down to 1,000 or 2,000 feet failed. Veterans groups spoke in favour of access at the hearing and did not carry the vote.
The consequence shows up in the directory. On 28 August 2026 the Healing Advocacy Fund's Colorado list had no licensed healing center inside Colorado Springs. The closest listed center sat in Manitou Springs, roughly six miles west, outside the city's jurisdiction. That is a snapshot rather than a register, and licensing moves, so the state's own lookup is the thing to check before you plan anything around it.
What this does not mean
It does not mean the program is closed to you. A state facilitator license is valid statewide and your participation is lawful. The zoning governs businesses, not people. What it changes is logistics, and honestly, cost: the session day involves a drive, and the drive has to be planned around the fact that you will not be driving yourself home afterward.
What we can do without a drive
Four of the five parts of the work do not require you to be in a room with me. The free 15-minute consultation is a call. The 90-minute intake and eligibility review, the preparation session, and the integration session two or three days after can all happen by video. That leaves the facilitated session itself, which by law happens at a licensed healing center, roughly six to seven hours in person.
For most Colorado Springs clients that means one planned trip rather than a series of them. Manitou Springs is minutes away. The Denver metro, about 70 miles north, held 21 of the 42 listed centers in the state and is where most people end up if they want a real choice of room. Bring someone who can drive, or arrange a ride and somewhere to sleep. Do not attempt I-25 southbound at the end of a session day.
Integration on its own
A separate group of people write to me from the Springs: those who already had an experience somewhere else, at a retreat abroad or years ago, and want to make sense of what it left. Integration support does not require that I was there and does not involve any substance. It works perfectly well over video, which for the Springs is usually the point.
