Psilocybin facilitation in Boulder
If you live in Boulder, you are in the densest part of Colorado's map for this work. Eight of the state's 42 listed healing centers were inside the city on 28 August 2026, which is more than Denver proper and considerably more than a city of 105,000 would suggest. Boulder's zoning did as much of that as Boulder's reputation did.
What Boulder decided
On 9 January 2025 the city council passed Ordinance 8665, which folded natural medicine healing centers into an existing land use category rather than inventing a hostile one. A healing center in Boulder is treated as a medical office. In business zones that means permitted by right, no special hearing per applicant. In residential zones it means Use Review, which is a real process but a passable one. Boulder set a 500 foot separation from middle, junior, and high schools, and state law layers on a 1,000 foot separation from childcare centers, preschools, elementary schools, and residential childcare facilities, measured by walking route rather than as the crow flies. Cultivation was pushed to industrial land. A center still needs a city business license alongside its state license.
The comparison that makes this legible is Colorado Springs, where the council voted for a one mile buffer from schools, daycares, and drug treatment centers, and where the directory still lists no center inside the city. Same state law, same year, opposite outcome.
What that means for you, practically
Choice, and a shorter drive on the longest day of the process. When there are eight licensed rooms within a few miles, you can decline one that feels wrong without the decision costing you three months. Ask about the room, the timing, whether the person you spoke with is the person who will stay, and what happens if the day runs long. Working together from Boulder
The consultation is a call. Intake, preparation, and integration can happen by video, which most Boulder clients prefer to a round trip, or in person in the west Denver metro, roughly 30 miles south. The facilitated session happens at a licensed center, and Boulder residents usually stay in Boulder for it.
One thing I ask Boulder clients specifically: do not treat the short drive as permission to compress the day. A session runs six to seven hours regardless of how close home is, you still cannot drive yourself afterward, and the evening still wants to be empty. Proximity makes the logistics easier, not the day shorter.

Do I have to travel to Denver for a session?

Is a facilitator the same as the healing center?
No. The healing center is the licensed premises, licensed by the Department of Revenue. The facilitator is a person licensed by DORA. A center may host facilitators who do not work for it, so the two choices can be made independently.
